“My practice explores states of being. Ideas are often sparked by observations or powerful emotions such as longing, or becoming stuck. This gives me a starting point; a space for ideas to emerge, research and making to begin. I’m particularly interested in how our experiences shape us.

My process begins with exploration of form. Play and experimentation are central to my approach, and I am curious about the possibilities clay offers when pushed, hit or broken. I disrupt vessels, which begin with the precision of wheel-thrown forms. I interrupt their symmetry and make adaptions to reveal tension, and leave marks. I then use slips, oxides, engobes and glaze materials to develop surface texture and depth.

I draw inspiration from abstract expressionism, especially enjoying its raw energy, emotional intensity, and the freedom it allows for gesture and spontaneity”.
